I have chrome Hooker side mount pipes on my 1980. I am looking to change out the inserts and was wondering how difficult it is to remove old inserts and install new inserts. I would appreciate any advice / techniques on how to remove before getting started. Car is fairly new to me and current inserts are pretty quite. Looking to open it up some with Sweet Thunder or Classic Chambered exhaust.....Thanks

Mine were relatively easy to remove because they've been in there for quite a while and they were glass packs. The metal had started deteriorating & was fairly easy to slide out. If yours are relatively new then I would soak both ends with Kroil or PB Blaster first and then try to get them out.  You could try holding them vertically with the square cut end down and drop it on a board to shock it. That might loosen it up.

In your postings Overland Park, KS shows as where you both live.  Just curious that's all.

Didn't even realize I put that down when I joined. Usually just put down KC metro area. I guess we could be neighbors then.

Yes we are neighbors. I live south of Menorah Hospital at 119th and Nall and thanks for the info concerning removal of the side-pipe inserts. I've had the car for a couple of years, the side-pipes were on there when I got it.

We are pretty close as I'm south of BVN.

Now its coming to me. Three or four weeks ago my wife and I were walking through the neighborhood and stopped and talked to you since your car was setting out by the street. I remember asking you if your car was a 73. At the time I told you I had a black 1980 with sidepipes……...what a small world. We'll have to get together sometime over a beer or whatever. I have driven by your house a couple of times in the vette but haven't seen you outside.

Actually you drove by Jack's house because he has a 73 orange Roadster. Mine is sitting in the garage with the engine on the engine stand ready to install. Just have to  finish rebuilding the front suspension.
