I know there has been discussion on this issue, but wonder if anyone has replaced the heater core on a non-ac car from the engine compartment? I found a artical with pictures showing this being done on a C3 (don't know what year).

I did it on my '70, which is probably similar enough. You needed to loosen the inner box and push it in a bit to let you get at the screws that hold the core into the box. I have to believe it was a lot easier than taking everything apart inside.

It can be done but the clips that hold the heater core in are a little tricky...with any luck they are rusted and weak. When I installed the new one I used a good foam weather strip around it with a bit of windshield urethane to hold it in place, worked fine with no rattles. Where the tubes come out I used the black A/C puddy tape to hold and plug around the tubes.

Good info John, I'll keep all that in mind, thanks.

I had also found that the aftermarket heater cores are just a bit smaller which allowed more room for the foam.
