Jimg,does that shutoff valve you purchased from napa,replace the heater control valve,or is used leaving the heater valve in place, I

If you guys who are useing ball check valves to isolate the heater core one is only doing half the job, you have to use two check valves, one at the intake and one at the water pump,I used short 1/2" nipple's to atach to the motor and short 1/2" heater hose nipple's to attach to the hoses instead of the copper tubing set up, less fittings and it cleared the AC brakets and the hoses stayed in the stock location, alot cleaner setup, check around for different check valves, some have the long handle like on the posted link and some have a knob, like a small TV knob, the knob looks cleaner and doesn't stick way out, also check to make sure the plenum is sealed properly and that the plenum doors are working properly, both inside and outside, a bad vacume dashpot will cause them not to open or close the way they are suppose to.

Hi Everyone, this is my first post . . .  I'm borrowing a friend's 68 427/435 roadster, and the interior is so hot, I can't believe he ever drove it . . . It's like a blast furnace!  Obviously, I read this thread with great interest . . .

First question:  Rather than on-off valves spliced into the heater hoses, what about just bypassing the heater core altogether by routing the intake hose directly to the water pump?  I live in So. Cal., so I doubt I would ever turn the heater on . . .

Thoughts?

I had a slight overheating problem in my 77. I added to my radiator a product named "water Wetter", some one in corvette magazine recommended it. I bought it at Autozone, about $8.00. I took my vette out on the interstate, temp was 94 degrees outside, (Florida) and ran the car for about 35 miles at 80 mph with a/c running. Cars temp went just barely over 200 degrees. I,m satisfied, although I don't know what it might do on really long drives. Good luck whatever you do, Gene

I also installed a shutoff valve on the return line to the water pump.  Without it, heat travels up the hose and into the heater core, even without any flow.  Just another trick i learned on these forums.

Do you, or anyone here, have the exact part name for that NAPA 660-1414 cited?  I'm trying to see it online on napaonline.com and it keeps coming back 'no matches'.  (disregard, just found it here: http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId= 470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=6601414&Description=H eater+Valve)

Being in about the farthest southwest in FL you can get, 95 degree days are common.  Just as you guys have described, "nuclear plant style" heat is becoming too regular for a guy that tries to drive my toy to work each day!
