Gas tank

Before I decided to change my tank, I considered a tank repair kit from Corvette Central. This kit does include a tank sealer which you may want to use. I'm sure you can find it at any performace parts center.

I just learned a valuable lesson today. After filling my tank, driving it a little, and parking the car in my garage, the odor of gas was very strong. Turns out that my gas cap was bad, it allowed air out and in, thus allowing the gas to splash into the rubber boot around the neck and down the overflow hose.

A simple way to test this is to remove the cap, wipe it good and do a suck & blow.

If you can pull air in, you may be getting some of that moist Florida air in there too. I just ordered a new gas cap & gasket today.

Darn good point, Anthony, it's very humid where I live (near the swamps-lol). I'll certainly get a new cap when I order the tank.

Had the same problem. The garage would smell like gas after parking it in the garage from a run. Finally found that it too was a bad seal on the gas cap. Actually it was missing all together..LOL. The temperature changes must have made a vacuum/pressure situation, thus i think this is where all moisture was coming from laying in the bottom of the tank. Just as i always say, check the simple stuff first.

I had a major water problem on a 73. I finally discovered the gasket at the filler neck was bad and every time I washed the car water would get in the tank. I took the neck off, re sealed the neck to the tank and problem solved! You can do that with the tank in place.

When I took my tank off I was looking for my build sheet also. No luck. But when I did my frame I found it in the front driverside inside of the frame.
