Build sheets(order copies) were taped to the tops of the fuel tanks for the assy line workers to see, to make sure the correct components/options were installed on the car.Once the car got to the body drop area, the sheet was glued to the tank. Other copies of the sheet could have been placed in various areas of the car for no real apparent reason. There was more than one copy of the build sheet, since the interior area needed one, the paint shop needed one, the chassis line, etc. The tank sticker was the main one, and was mandated to be placed there, which is why it is glued on. The other sheets, if there are any, are the ones that one of the assy line workers put there just for grins...or they were too lazy to throw them away. Who knows?
You can find all sorts of stuff(that ain't supposed to be there) inside an original car if you dig deep enough. I found a sanding disc unde the carpet, under the pass seat on my '74...it has a GM part # on it. It apparently just got left laying on the floor when the interior was installed at the factory. There were also about 15 un-used aluminuminum rivets under there.

Ya know,
I bought my car with nothing on it.
Had to buy everything and put it together.
Can I create my own build sheet?

I have changed my crpets, put in new seats and looked all over my car for a buildsheet.  I cannot find one.  From what I understand there is little hope of finding one.  My vette was built in St Louis, before the fire!!!

Talking about buildsheets and talking about builders. Now I'm also a NCRS member and right in front of me (normally under my pillow) lies the Assembly Instruction Manual 1972. Page 209 'Fuel tank, supports & straps'; so no problem for a 72. OK, 72 is not 74 and I suggest you join NCRS (besides C3VR of course) and put this problem at their Forum. One warning: Christmas won't be anything like a silent night...!Star

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary, red leather interior, 18500 miles, AM/FM/8-track player, L-48, auto, mirrored T-tops, alloy wheels, Goodyear GT Radial tires.
2015 Z06 convertible, 7spd manual, 9600 miles, 3LZ pkg, Torch Red.
My leaf spring broke on my '78 Silver Anniversary about 5 years ago. When it was taken down for replacement the build sheet was tucked between the spring and the body...and it was mostly legible.
