Vette(s): 1971 Convertible, black on black with white top.
454, Hurst 4-speed. No Power Brakes, Steering or Windows.
Regarding my 71 Convertible 454, 4 speed. I realize that the majority of the Corvette owners have beautiful stock Vettes. I bought mine last year from a fellow in PA. It is not stock and I am working on it as I speak. I want to put in a new fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. Has anyone put in a "regular" fuel tank without the vapor lines? I would really appreciate any help.

Same tank dimensionally, but I believe a 68 tank has no return line port and no vapor return-used a vented cap. What are you trying to accomplish?

Thanks for the reply. The car was pretty well non-stock when I bought it. It is a real nice black convertible and I am an old drag racer. Ya know, ya kin take the man away from the track but ya cant.....
I am going to paint the frame and replace everthing underneath and I wanted to "clean up" the fuel return line and generally put back all new stuff, fuel, brake lines, sending unit, rear end diff, drive shafts, fiberglass spring, everything. Then the whole frt end. I am going to need a little more fuel than the stock line gives so that's why I was asking. I will have to go with a true 3/8 id line from the tank to the pump. The pump will give 110 gph. That's what I will need.

Well the sending unit is the same 68-74 and maybe C2s as well, so you may want to go with a custom tank or modify a sending unit to get a bigger line. Thought the stock supply line was already 3/8?

I just replaced all my lines (with stainless) and the supply line is 3/8. The return and vent lines are 5/16.

I guess my .02 cents is worth a look also. I would keep the existing tank, install a sump in the bottom so you could if you wish then go to a electric at some point, because we know electrics don't "pull" out of the tank very well but they sure do pump well if they have a good free fuel supply. This way you could keep the original tank, get the sump welded inand use the old 3/8 fuel supply line for a return line and the 5/16 could be for a vent or plugged off.

Thanks for all the info. I wasn't quite sure the id was a true 3/8ths, that should be plenty. The idea of the sump from Mr. Vette is a good one. I will have to explore that further. This is a great web site, man am I going to use all your knowledge. My 71 needs a lot of replacement stuff and I have all the books. And now, have all the "vette friends". thanks a lot.
PS-If ever I can help anyone with a 6-71 blower application on a small block, just email me. (I raced one for 4 years at Detroit Dragway).

No vent line is fine as long as you use a vented gas cap. It has to vent somewhere. With the vented cap you may get a fuel smell in the car.
