Vette(s): 1977 L48 just purchased 07-20-05 this was a one owner corvette,had been in a garage for the last 4 year on blocks.I have the orignal sales invoice (purchased from Anthony AbrahamChevolet)for the total price of $10550 dollars.In MIAMI,FL.
Am having a problem with replacing my fuel pump on my 77 corvette 350.I tried many time to make the push rod that operates the pump to stay up long enough so i can install the new pump .i have put heavy grease on it ,used mechanical finger and it still keeps dropping down before i get the new pump on.Is there anybody out there that has a suggestion or trick to make this rod stay up long enough to install the new pump.thank you glenn

On the front of the engine, right around the corner from the fuel pump, you will see two bolts in the block. Remove the top bolt, and replace it with one that is about 2 inches longer. Just snug it up,,,DO NOT crank down on it tight! This will hold the pushrod up, while you install the pump. When you get the pump on, remember to replace the long bolt with the one that came in the hole originally,

Here ya go...take a look at This pic It should help ya locate the correct location of the bolt. The longer bolt you insert will go thru the block there, and hold the pushrod. Just BE SURE to not tighten the bolt...just snug it up. If you get it too tight, you can bend the pushrod, which will create a whole 'nuther problem!

I just replaced the fuel pump on my '76. I had heard about the longer bolt method and am sure it probably works, but I ended up doing it a different way: I took the mating plate off (the two bolts below the fuel pump bolts) and then installed the fuel pump/gasket/plate as an assembly. Use the fuel pump bolts to hold them all together. It was easy to use the pump's lever to push up the push rod and then all I had to do was get the pump bolts started. Then thread in the two bolts for the plate and tighten everything up. Took minutes compared to the hour plus I spent trying to thread in the pump lever between the plate and push rod.
1976 Silver/Firethorn. L48, 4spd. Original 2 bolt, vortec heads, 9.4:1 CR, Speed Pro Cam: 224/224@0.050, 112 LSA, Eagle Steel Crank.
