I have the Radiator in and I have been waiting on my new Shroud. I put it in loose and put the new 17 1/2" fan in but the fan hits the passenger side a little bit. I had a new core put in the radiator so its been completly out of the car. Is there some way to adjust the fit on this. It has the correct part # on it and it looks just like the old one. It looks like it needs to go up and toward the passenger side a little. I don't have the nuts on the bottom tight and I dont even have the bolts in the top mount for the shroud. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Lonnie.

Lonnie, check your trans mount first. If it is mushy, it may be jacking the front of the engine off center a bit. The engine mounts could cause the same problem, if they are not in good shape.
Also, if you have had the car sitting up on jack-stands for a while, you may need to set it on the ground in order for everything to go back to "normal".
I'm sure you could "shim" the bottom bolts to raise the shroud, and maybe slot the holes in the shroud to allow some side/side adjustment, if needed. Just make sure the engine/trans is in the correct position first. Remember, too, that the engines in our Sharks are off-set a little to the passenger side to start with.

I'm going to work on it today, so I'll check out the mounts. Thanks Joel.

I got under it yesterday and the trans mount looks pretty shabby. I called around this morning and O'Rielly has the tranny and the motor mounts so I'm gonna do all and see what happens with the shroud clearence.
Thanks
Lonnie

Good luck! That should take care of the problem, I believe.
Unless, of course, there is a problem with the shroud itself not being made exactly right. Is the fan you installed the same diameter as the old one?

The car did not have a fan when I got it. I found a used one here locally, as far as I can tell it is correct, it is 17 1/2" 7 blade for an a/c car. It looks like it will fit fine. I picked up the new mounts last night. I might be able to work on it tonight. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks
Lonnie

Check engine mounts. I chewed up part of my shroud at about the one-two o'clock position due to a broken engine mount.

Lonnie,
It's been almost a year.
Did you resolve the problem?

I just finished my 71 LS5.  I, too, used a repro fan shroud, and it hit on the passenger side.  I was able to push sideways and tighten everything so it just clears.  I have to assume the repro shrouds are just a little off.  If needed, you can shave a little off the inside of the shroud.

If you take a good look at the eng. compartment you'll notice that on c-3 vettes the engine favors the passenger side of the car, they come that way from the factory, as far as eng. and trans mounts, buy good one's, most of all that stuff is made over sea's, my street rod buddies tell me they don't last long, with a big block I would go with G.M. safety type or aftermarket poly.
