im so on the fence with this too- i want the sound, but as scott 78 said, i dont want the police to hear me before they see me! my car is ready for an exhaust system from the cat-back, but since i now have QQ reg, i was thinkin of a true dual, no-cat chambered system.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.

Maybe i'm getting old and hard of hearing, but I have the chambered exhaust and I think it's a perfect sound. It's not as loud as the sidepipes were on my 66.

JR, since you're only 30 miles away from me, I'd be glad to meet you somewhere so you can judge for yourself.

Jim, that would be cool.  I really need to see some more cars.  It seems like mine is the only one around.

I agree with Jim. I put chambered on my 75 and couldn't be happier. If I really romp down on it and hold it, it can get a little loud. But it is not nearly as loud as the side pipes that were on a 64 that that my dad had years ago.

I finally have the chambered system installed, with new hedman headers.  It sounds really good.  I think my flowmaster was louder, but it had leaks, so I can't tell for sure.

I found that it was actually easier to talk to the passenger with the chambered exhaust than when I had the flowmaster.

One of my belt is squeaking on acceleration and trans. speed change and it's making noise louder than the exhaust.

I  had  flowmasters  and  changed  over  to  2.5  chambered  last  year   while  installing  5  speed.  They  sound  Great,  would  do over  in  a  heartbeat.  Got  them  from  Eckler,  easy  install  had  to  modify  trans  hanger  a  little.  Can  listen  to radio  and  talk  no  problem.

When I purchased my Chambered Exhaust 5-6 years ago Mid America
sent me the wrong rear pipes ...but discovered their mistake before I even opened the cartons and set me the correct set... I Called them and they told me to Keep the wrong set too much trouble to repack ands send back...

Therefore I had everything I needed to install the system on both my 72 (Rag top)or on either the 76 or 79...both coupes, both without cats, and of course true duals...

Honestly I have had it on all three cars...and again honestly they sound completely different on each car...

On both the coupes it was just unbearable..I could almost live with it if I kept the windows down...with the windows up and the top on I felt like I was inside a drum... way way way too loud and this is from a guy who is complete deaf in one ear...!

I would NEVER recomemnd them on a Coupe... BUT they are "bitchen"
on a rag top...

Vette(s): 1968 coupe bought in 1999, 2nd owner, 427 custom built, 4 speed (M20), 3:36 posi rear end, Recaro seats, Intro wheels, Nitto tires, Flowmasters, etc. Painted nite race metallic blue.
I have coated Hedman headers in mine with 2 and 1/2 inch aluminized pipes. I also have an X-connector. The mufflers are Flowmaster series 40. The chrome tips are 3". Everything fits perfect with no issues with the spare tire carrier or the mufflers showing below the body. The engine sound is great, but except when the car if off, forget about the stereo. I am not sure how much I could improve the sound with the chamfered pipes, but I am happy with the performance and sound.
