Dual Exhaust Bracket

I am going to be installing a true dual exhaust system on my 79 and have a question about the bracket that mounts at the tail of the tranny area that the exhaust pipes clamp to before they cross through the frame. I have looked at pictures on-line of the cars that have true duals but I'm a bit confused on where exactly the darn bracket mounts. Do I have to unbolt the trans mount and jack it up and slip the bracket in between the trans and the mount surface or does it go on top of the whole assembly? I just have not seen a clear enough picture to know for sure exactly where it should be attached. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

The bracket will go between the top of the mount, and the trans tailhousing. You will need to un-bolt the mount from the trans, jack the trans up, remove the mount, then slide the bracket up there, replace the mount, and bolt everything back up.

Thanks guys! Believe it or not my car only has 8k miles on it and is all original underneath. No exhaust work has ever been done and even the mufflers have the original build date on them. I'm using the original GM bracket for true dual exhaust, that cat has to go, so now I just have to jack that tranny and I will be good to go. Thanks for the help.

Be prepared to utter a few unsavory words in the process...it's not gonna just zap itself up in there...you'll have to fanagle it quite a bit. At least your's isn't a 4 peed....

It is a 4-speed but I do have the linkage off right now because I am rebuilding the shifter. I hope you will tell me that will give me enough clearance to get the trans jacked up for the bracket install........... KC

It will go in there, but just don't expect it to slide right in. You will have to twist/turn/tilt it every which way....and then realize it's backwards or something...
Does your car have exhaust on it now, or will you have it all off before putting the bracket on? That will definitely make a difference.

I usually have the cross member lowered on one side, dropping the tranny down to get the shifter off, so it musta been tricky . There might be an easier way ?

The stock exhaust has been removed from the car so I think I will at least have a fighting chance. Sure wish I had a lift in my garage. I'm getting too old to be working on a car up on jackstands! Oh, to be young again!
