Distributor vacuum advance unit

I have been trying to troubleshoot a nonfunctional battery gauge(maybe).  My Haynes manual states the temp sending unit works works with the vacuum advance solenoid and then works with the distributor vacuum advance unit.  My question is: where is the distributor vacuum advance unit????  Does this have any bearing on the battery gauge.  I know these components are part of the TCS system. The set up you are talking about stops vacuum advance until the engine is warmed up.  The vacuum advance is still the vacuum unit on the distributor.  It is just routed through a solenoid that shuts it off cold.  The solenoid is controlled by the sensor.

It has nothing to do with the gauge.

My suggestion is to check the connection on the back of the sending unit.  It should be located on the passenger side of the engine towards the back, at least that's where it is on the 79.  There is an electrical clip connection to the back of the unit that may have just come loose, but then again you probably already checked this and I'm just ranting trying to make it seem like I know what I'm doing!

I'm sure others are going to suggest you check to make sure the gauge is properly grounded.

 

Sorry, folks, I went brain dead there for a few minutes and thought I read that she needed help with the temp gauge, not the battery gauge.  Hey, it's early okay...give me a break!
