Cooler Fuel?

While paging thru the Summit catalog, I noticed a fuel line cooler. Anyone ever try one of these things? It looks like a tiny autotranny fluid cooler. Its advertised as a solution for vapor lok. Just curious... |headscratch| |saluteflag| |saluteflag|

Never tried one of those. My brother-in-law had a home-made contraption he used on his '70 AMX when he was running it on the drag strip. He ran a coil of the fuel line through a box packed with ice mounted under the hood.

The gasket kit I installed between the carb and the intake manifold sure took care of my hot start problems. Before the carb was too hot to touch, now it is barely warm. Hot starts are no longer embaressing.

Now that you mention it, a buddy of mine who used to race his 68 RoadRunner had a bucket
of ice with fuel line coiled in it. I guess for racing that would be the ticket but impracticle for everyday use. The cooler in the Summit catalog peaked my interest.

I had the same problem. Couldn't touch the carb cause it was so hot. I put on the Holley heat shield with the 3/8 spacer and that helped alot

The fuel line cooler in Summit is indeed a neat idea, I have thought about it as well. The question I have is where can you put it without running fuel lines all over the under hood area?
The fire risk in case of an accident would increase dramatically if it were installed in a vulnerable location.

I have reflective insulation (from Summit) made for tubing on my fuel lines to prevent heat soaking my fuel. This is simple and very effective. I wish I had tested it befor and after. It is also cheap and easy to install.

The plates below the carb do help tremendously. I just installed a new intake manifold on my car which made it un-needed. I am using the new Edlebrock "Air Gap" manifold and it really helps.
