The quadrajet had a problem with the casting of the float bowel. They tend to leak in that area. If the carb to intake gasket is wet, especially in the area towards the middle, yours may be one of those with a porosity problem in the float bowl, or a crack. Ken Styer may be able to shed more lite on this, I don't know if they can be epoxied or not. I loose the qjet on every engine I've had.

The q-jet is a very good street performer carb.  And yes, yours probably needs rebuilt.  Any good carb man can do this with no problem.  Note I said good carb man.  There are several trick to the q-jet that must be attended to.  This includes the porisity leakage problem.  Once the carb is off and apart, it's really very easy to repair with a good epoxy.  The carb article I wrote shows the repair.
