I went to take the beast for a ride today, it started right up, but within a few seconds it almost died out.
I hit the gas a little, it popped through the carb and stayed running. After a few seconds it did it again.
Once the car is warm (about a minute or two) it idles fine, and runs great. This is the third time this has happened, and it only occurs when the car is cold.
My plugs and wires are new, as well as the cap and rotor.
Any idea's ?

Sounds like the choke is not closing....that would make it stall when cold, and backfire back thru the carb.
Take the air cleaner lid off and look at it before you start it cold next time. Mash the accelerator pedal a little first, so the choke will shut, then see if it actually closes. It may just need an adjustment, or there may be a linkage issue.

Hey Warbird,
I had the exact same thing happen with my Q-Jet after it was rebuilt and put back on my '79.
During the initial install it did not happen, probably because the motor never really cooled down enough to show how it would behave when truly cold. The next morning I went to start it and it did just what you described.
The mechanic I took it to adjusted the choke and now it's fine.
I hope your's is just that simple.
