The A/C Compressor on my 72 runs anytime that the selector is moved from the off position. This includes vent and heat. Does anyone know the fix for this or where to start looking. Are there any wiring diagrams on the web? Thanks |headscratch| |

The control has a set of compressor contacts on it that is applied when the thumbwheel is in various places-normal a/c, max, and defrost as I recall. You supply power to those contacts for the compressor when you move from "off". Sounds like your contacts are stuck closed. You have to take the console plate off to get to it. If I remember correctly the contacts on the right side are for power to the fan switch and to the compressor contacts (these close when the thumbwheel is not in "off"); the ones on the left are for the compressor. Hope that helps.

If you end up pulling the entire unit out of the car you may consider replacing the face plate. I did it last year with one of the kits and, although it looked complicated it really wasn't bad. Plus, once I got the unit apart I could see just how badly it needed to be cleaned and lubed. Also, if your bulb is out, now is the time to replace it, be sure to get the correct one from a dealership and not from an auto parts store, they are different. Let me know if you have any questions.

Good luck!!

Thanks for that information. I am kind of leaning towards the vacume system and the control switch at this time. Just haven't had the time to work on it. |thumb|
