77 VIR vavle ?

Hey guys,

I am getting ready to fix my A/C so I can enjoy the trip to the 50th aniv. a little better. Anyway, I have the POA/VIR valve system and have never worked on this type. Does this POA/VIR valve need to be replaced? The system has been unpressurized for an unknown # of years. I am getting a rebuilt compressor and new hoses, and probably this POA/VIR valve. I will be using 134a so is there anything else I should check?

Another question for you guys... I have been doing some reading on duracool r12a. Looks like it's better than 134a, anyone out there try it?

I would stay away from any refrigerant other that R12 or R134. An engineer who specializes in HVAC explained it to me like this: With R12 or R314 the molecules are all the same size, if you lose some you can put some back and the refrigerant has the same chemical composition. All the non-flamible substitutes have molecules that vary in size as drastically as salt partices and golf balls, if you lose the small molecules only the big ones are left so you cannot balance the charge without completely replacing it. Also,some of the substitutes are very hard on seals.
