Dont know what secton to put this in. My wiper door vacuum canister is very tarnished. Does anyone know of a product or procedure that will remove the tarnish. I dont want to use a wire brush or wheel because that will damage the cadmium (gold colored) plating. I have tried Brasso and Tarn-x with Brasso removing a little of the tarnish with a lot of elbow grease. I keep thinking about the late night commercial where the guy dips the penny in the cleaner and it comes out shiny. Thought about replaiting it but not sure I can have this done with the rubber parts inside.

Once that color "turns" I don't believe there's much you can do about it. Eastwood's catalog has a kit you can spray to replicate the cad coating.
The Eastwood catalog came with this month's Hemmings. It's got some really neat stuff!

O
Rub N Buff. (See pic in above thread.)
You get it at the craft shop. Use sparingly; a little goes along way.

The Rub n Buff looks neat. Is it a paint? Brasso removes the tarnish but also the gold plating color.
Maybe I'll try a light buffing compound.
Thanks

There is a place called Caladonia. I am not sure if that is spelled right. They are always at Corvettes at Carlisle. If you send them your canister they will rebuild and replate it. Not sure of the price, but I think it is cheaper to buy a new one. I paid around 100 dollars for mine.
