Why ?

Did you ever wonder why vette hoods open the opposite way than almost any other american car ?

Isn't it a safety thing, so that if it pops open at high speeds the wind won't rip it off the car?

I thought it was because of the fact that the amount of "car" between the front of the hood and the front edge of the car was longer than on a normal car so it made easier and greater access to the rest of the engine?

However, now that you mention it, Adam, that would make sense too!

I own three vehicles...they all have hoods that open this way...and they are all chevys !!..and clasics at that...Care to guess ?

I belive a few of the mid 80's buicks or Oldsmobiles had hood that opened that way too.....

My Studebaker Avanti I used to own had a front opening hood as well. I think it's more a matter of simplicity of engine bay access depending on the styling of the car. Many years ago my Dad owned a '62 Lincoln Continental and I believe it had a front opening hood as well. Corvettes, my Avanti and my Dad's Lincoln all had front end styling that had pretty severe forward slope. That could have made for an excessively large and heavy hood and spring mechanism for a rear opening unit.

Although I agree with gunslinger, I have a hard time comparing a C3 to a stuedabaker!!!!!!!!!

Arrr, arrr, arrr! Don't knock Studies. I miss mine...never should have sold it, but while I have always loved their styling, like all cars, Avanti's have their own sets of problems peculiar to them. I'm not comparing C3's to them, but I do intend to own another one day, this time a later model that came equipped with a Vette engine.
