I agree with Ben, the 255 should work on an 8 inch rally. On the front, 235's would be about the limit to keep from scrubbing the frame.

I have 255/60/15 on 15X8 rims all the way around.
No rubbing, but if the car sit just a bit low, it will rub. Some will anyway due to body variations. When the 60s cam out as an option, the front wheel lip was trimmed about 1/2 inch to prevent rubbing. Buy my 75 does not rub.

I have the 8" rally wheels with 275-50-15 on the rear. I have also run 265-50-15 on the front (since 1986) until this year when I went to 235-60-15 on the front for more of the big-n-little look. The 265-50-15's rubbed slightly when the wheel was turned to lock, but no other rubbing at all. I have also seen 275-60-15 on the stock rally wheel on the rear. Kind of tall and makes the car sit high in the rear....My 2 cents...
