Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
I'm trying to shop for insurance for my 79, so I just went to NADA's site to get an approximate value of it.  Here is what it said:

Original MSRP: $12,313

Low RetailAverage Retail ValueHigh Retail
Base Price$12,150$18,100$30,900
Options

Corvette Glass Roof$200$350$600
Factory Air Conditioning10%10%10%
Rally Sport Package25%25%25%
TOTAL PRICE$16,603$24,785$42,315

It never asked me for condition or mileage.  I really have a hard time my 116,000 mile car that needs paint is worth even $12,150.  Any way for me to know what it is really worth and what I should really insure it for?

Thanks!

This web site:
http://buyclassiccars.com/offsite.asp?site=http://www.kruseinternational.com/results/index.asp

has listings from recent auctions all over the country.  It tells which cars sold for what price, and their condition.  It should give you a pretty good idea.

Did you use the NADA "Classic Cars" section?

That one shows: LOW=12150, AVG=18100, HIGH=30900
If an L82 car: LOW=14800, AVG=21000, HIGH=33500

Agree with above - these seem a bit high.

I took my cars to a local appraiser that does it for all the local insurance companies. It costs $75 per car, but he gives a real value, one the insurance companies won't argue with if there is a loss. I would call your agent and find out who is used by them locally.

I can tell you from VERY recent experience that the insurance company doesn't care what NADA says. They will look in the local papers to find comparables and then try to lowball you on those. If you insure it normally. If you go through a classic car insurer, Condon & Skelly, Hagerty, etc. You get "agreed value insurance" .
IF it gets totalled {like mine did 2 months ago) the classic car insurance co. right you a check based on the value that you both agreed to.  Hagerty has probably one of the most liberal driving policies of them all. I can give you more details Adam about my experience if you want to give me a call one evening. Cell 240-674-7420

Was at Carlisle on Sunday missed a lot of you guys. The wife and I were shopping for a "new" Corvette in the car corral area.  No luck, came home empty handed but with a full pocket.

I just this month got Hagerty and saved a ton compared to the coverage I had with Farmers that didn't even have full coverage. Yes Hagerty has agreed value. They have an online sign up and the phone staff are great!
