I never said they wouldn't werk...just think there are better for da $$$.
Any mod you make that can be reversed easily will not hurt the value of the car. If you swap the engine for a stroker, but keep the original bagged, the value is still there. A larger exhaust will help a little, to a point. Changing the exhaust is not a permanent thing, so it can be put back "original" with no problems if you decide to put sidepipes, or just a larger diameter pipe in. Any body mods(other that swapping the hood) will potentially effect the future value, and may make it near impossible to sell, should the need arise.

The 400 trans will handle just about anything you wanna throw at it, as long as it is in good condition to start with.
