welding?

found engine cross member is in need of a bit of weldingAngry
what do you disconnect before arc or mig welding?????

I never welded before, but I do know that you have to disconnect the battery before welding. 
 
I'm sure others will chime in as to other suggestions.

Ten15 is correct, disconect the bat.  Especially important on cars with 'puters'.   Also, I always shield around the area that I'm welding to prevent any unwanted sparks landing (fuel lines, brake lines, anything flamable, etc. ) .  Oh,  and make sure you have the proper fire exstinguser available just in case.  I burnt a tractor to the ground welding on it once ..... trust me,  it  DEFFINITLY ruins your day!  Ouchdeeboy592007-07-30 15:04:07
