Hello fellow C3 vette owners.....I have a question for anyone out there that is familiar with the vacuum system, particularly for a 78. I happened to be looking at a long black cylindrical tank mounted to the front bumper. I believe it is called a vacuum reservoir tank. Looking at the tank from the front between the nose cowl and the hood I see that the two left side ports have black tubing running to various system parts. The one at the far right is capped and I am wondering if it is supposed to have a line going somewhere???? The headlights do work and the wipers seem to function ok also..................Am I missing some functionality features in the vac system or perhaps I should be looking for other issues....
Sorry for the lenghty post, it seems the only way to explain it.
thanks again.....

Apparently someone has done some re-plumbing on your car. There should be one hose from the engine as a vacuum source, and one to each of the two vacuum relays for the two headlights. Someone must have combined something if your headlights still work, so you can just leave it if you want.

The port on the drivers side of the resevior tank is the vacuum supply from the engine. The only purpose for the tank is so that your headlights will still raise/lower after the engine is killed. I suppose the supply for the tank could be piped in anywhere, and if the other two ports are being used then the tank must be good. There are many old post here on vacuum issues.

Some great info on this site. The engine has to be running for a few minutes on my 77 before the lights start to come up. They seem to hang up a bit before coming completly up. The vacuum trouble shooting guide that I got from this site should help me isolate the problem, Thanks
