BTW, I think you're husband is the lucky one!

Crate engines are definitely the way to go. I have no regrets with mine. But now I would be afraid of scraping up that nice new paint job. Good luck with the new engine!

for a couple of hundred $$ more...might as well get brand new!!!!

Not worried about the paint..THAT would be an ''easy'' fix acompared to this!

Well got a whole new version of exactly what happened!!!

I am soo PO-ed at the garage here..their so called ''mechanic'' was wwwwaaaayyyyyyyy off base!
The SOB didn't even LOOK at the friggin engine!!
Here is what really happened!!

Took her up to Knoxville yesterday (Sat. 12)..when we got there..first thing Bob AKA Violator(the owner and ace mechanic of Dragon's Breath Performance) did when we got her in the shop was start tearing the engine down!

Here is what we found.


I did NOT drop a valve.
Violator tore the top end off while I was there today.

all the valves were there..but there was a rod ''missing''. That decided further investigation!!

off came the intake and heads.

Well low and behold all 4 pitsons were INTACT!!!!!!!!!!

but on closer inspection...a lifter seemed to be missing as well!!

got the flashlight...took a look down the hole..couldn't see a dayum thing...so Bob pulled the 2 lifters in the next cylinder off and could see the cam shaft thru those.

I actually SNAPPED the camshaft!!!!!!!!!!!!

very very bad internal injuries.

Bob is gonna tear it down and see if he can find any chunks and pieces.

So yea...the motor is definitely TOAST!!

Most likely...or when the lifter dropped down it could have been the ''culprit''. Will know more when Bob gets the cam out.

We're finally getting mine to the point we can start it for the first time, hopefully one night this week! I'm gonna be a basket case! I have a ton of money tied up in a 427 solid lift motor!
The new carbs went on tonight and we spent all day hooking stuff up, starting to look like the beast it is!

I've never heard of a cam snapping. That must have made a heckuva racket Let us know if you find out what caused this. There could be a lot more damage done than first suspected so it's good to go with a new crate engine No worries then
