I am working on a 79 that can be shifted into drive with the ignition locked. I figured it was the interlock cable, but there is none. The steering column does not have a place to hook one up. The AIM does not show a cable on the automatic transmission installation section, but the steering column section shows a place for the cable at the firewall, though it does not show the cable itself. What am I not seeing?

Hi, Starting in 1977, the interlock only locked the steering wheel. Transmission no longer has a lock connected to the ignition switch.

Mark,

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been on the road...

Thanks for the very helpful info. My 70 has the interlock, so I assumed (wrongly!) that the 79 would too. Guess I'll just have to make sure it's in Park when I shut it off 😊

Thanks again,

Keith
