after reading many many forums and feedback, i'm still left with questions. I'm looking to replace my stock aluminum slotted 15x8 wheels and tires and am wanting to go to 17" wheels.
My question is around fitment. I know factory is a 4" backspacing and to accomodate wider wheels, i've relocated the Ebrake cable already.
What i'm looking at is going with 17x9 all the way around with a 5.25" backspace. I'm thinking this would require me to use a 1" wheel spacer at least in the rear to prevent it from being tucked in too much. For tire size, i'm looking at 255/50-17 which would keep me right at factory height, but wider.
Any comments on if this would fit all the way around ? or would i have to use a narrower tire on the front ?
Thanks in advance.

Spacers put an additional load on the wheel bearings and lugs. Will 5 1/4" clear the calipers?

Darin, I had 17X8 Torque Thrust II wheels with 4 1/2" backspace on my 74. They fit just fine with 255/55R17 tires. Only problem was the fronts would rub on hard turns sometimes, so using a 245 or so front tire might be a good idea. Good luck with your search.
