Vette(s): White 1975 L48 Stingray 129,000 Miles, daily driver.
I think I just took the tops of the list for stupidest thing ever done in a Vette. Got so excited about fixing my headlights and wanting to go for a drive that I backed out of the garage without closing my drivers side door. Anyone have a drivers side door they'd like to sell me? mine is TOTALED. BTW-I'm also dirt poor...and now have a non-salable Vette...I want to CRY!....but no, I gotta take this freakin' door off and figure out how to turn off the interior lights...little bastard spring in the switch is too strong for duct-tape...anyone have any ideas? and does anyone know how to take off the door?

Yeah...my girlfriend will come home from Germany tomorrow excited for the first time about my Vette(she hated it when I bought it and refused ever to ride in it, and she told me on the phone yesterday that she wanted me to pick her up in it...)....and there will be no Vette...there will be a Camry with a non-functional A/C(THAT was today's project)....On the real upside...I have a week to get this fixed before my family gets home and I need to have my car back on the road....alost is probably going to be another excuse for a paint-job. Yippie Ki-yay Mother#%(*&......God....the worst part is that when my family & friends find out they're gonna be such little bastards about this.........*goes back to figureing out how to take off the door....in tears*

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

Scot,
Doggone it, I am so sorry to hear about your screwup. Man, I don't know what to say... A few years ago, I got in my 92 Blazer, and pushed the garage door opener, and started backing up, before the door opened completely. The blazer had a little spoiler over the rear window, and the garage door was lodged in between the spoiler and the top of the SUV. I pushed the door outwards of the door jam, and I couldn't get the door up, or down. I had to get a big prybar, and pry it back inside the garage. Luckily, I didn't do much damage to the Blazer, mostly to the garage door.
Boy, when you do something like that, you feel like a real big DUMBASS...
My wife didn't help anything, as she just laughed her butt off..She said it sounded like the house was falling down.. Boy, did that ever take a long time to wear off...
I still hear about that once in a while
It is kinda funny now, but it sure wasn't then...|
As far as the interior lights are concerned, pull the fuse. That should fix your problem with the lights.

And I thought I was having a bad day
Sorry to hear about your day! Wow, what a downer
Pull fuse or disconnect the battery...will have to disconnect to pull the door anyway.

Maybe you can find a door from one of the salvage yards?
Was the glass damaged?

Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
I've gone IN to the garage with my truck's door open, which certainly isn't half as bad, since the door shut. I just wound up with a slightly dented and scraped door.
I've also TWICE now caught the passenger side mirror (on my truck) on the garage while backing out. The first time I broke the mirror frame. It was a clean break and I was able to super-glue it back on. The second time, I just scraped it up.
I really need a wider garage opening!
Sorry to hear about your loss!

I've been fighting with my contractor about hurrying the heck up and getting my garage door installed. After reading this thread, I'm not so sure any more. Good luck Scot.
