This is a stupid question...but how do you get the spare tire out?

I would guess it is the same for all C3s. I forget what size socket you need so take a few and crawl under the back of the car with your head facing the front. Once you are under it about 10 or 12 inches, look up at the rear of the spare tire carrier and you will see a threaded rod with a nut on it. Loosen the nut, pull the rod out of the slot and the spare tire carrier will hopefully drop down. It would be advisable to shift your position before moving the rod out of the slot so the thing does not drop and hit you in the head |smile|
I've seen it ( no I did not do it to myself !! ).

After you have the nut loosened, there is a slot in the bracket that is made to but the lug wrench in to help lift the bracket so when you move the nut and shaft to the side it won't fall on your head.

Thanx guys...believe it or not, the lock was never removed from the threaded rod since the car was new! it did come off pretty easily though, so i was pretty happy.

My friend if this is true, then you have the original spare. Hold on to it $$$$$$. But, get a replacement, you don't want to drive on that one--------be safe! |cheers|

Did you pull out a tire and rim or only a tire?I thought that I read somewhere that some years only came out with a tire,to cut down on weight.

Just out of curiosity, what's an unused donut spare worth? Mine still has the little nubs on it & looks like never been removed from the compartment. BTW, it was flat so I had to put 2004 air in it.

Mines still got the nubs on it too,and still had air in it.I think I made a big mistake,I took some fine sand paper to the rim cleaned it up and painted it black.that yellow rim was more than I could handle,it seems to me that the nut on the rod can be removed with the jack handle, the nut is the same size as the lug nuts which the end of the jack handle fits.not only has the spare tire not been used, the jack has never been used either, when I bought the car from the 2nd owner he gave me a small bottle jack with it ,he said he couldn't find the original jack,he didn't know where it was hidden |headscratch| |laugh|

Hey - My C-3 spare is brand spanking new too. In fact, I think that I am the only one that has ever gotten it down.
I doubt if the previous owner knew where it was, or what it was for that matter.
I put 2004 air in it. Will that do anything to the value of this exotic piece ?
All kidding aside, it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. |saluteflag| |cool|
