I have a 68 conv and as we all know when the tops down there's enough room for a 6 pack. Has anyone heard or converted ther spare tire compartment to a luggage compartment. I'm not worried about flats as long as I have the visa & AAA. I was thinking of installing a small winch to raise & lower the spare carrier. Then I can take a suitcase or two & travel further. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Have you thought about building or buying a trailer made from a vette rear clip?

"The Toy" has a luggage rack for carrying extra stuff. I haven't looked much but have thought about trying to find a small lockable pod that would clamp on to the rack for some extra space. I don't think I would like to put much weight in it but anything you can get out of the inside of the car would help.

A friend of mine has something like that for his C4. Let me try to find out where he got it.

That would be GREAT...!!! I was thinking about checking at a few motorcycle dealerships as I've seen smaller pods on the back of the big freeway cruiser-type bikes.

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
I think your friend may have somehthing that is available for motorcycles or Mopeds. They are designed to clamp on to the rear racks on these bikes. You might want to start looking in that industry.

With a little planning you would be surprised at what you can carry with the top down... Drove my 72 on both the 94
and 99 National Caravans (6 day trip)..I did however
limit my wife to 2 pair of shoes...one pair on here feet..
I also can break done and carry a 3 wheel Handicapped scooter in both my 64 & 72 with the tops down..only way I can get all over Carlisle these days...
HOWEVER...those fiberglass "pods" were manufactured for
c4's..And after the first National Carivan I did look into buying one...IT WILL FIT my 72 so your 68 is fine
Sorry I forgot the manufacturers name..but they sold for a few hundred dollars back in 95 or 96 when I looked...

It sounds like a great idea, I don't think that you would even have to install a winch, just use the stock latch, as long as it didn/t rain your stuff would stay dry, I went to goodwill and found a nice black suitcase and modified it to fit my luggage rack,5.00,don't put much weight in it though don't want to crack the deck, I run my spare in the tub, I have this thing about getting rearended in a plastic car floating around in the back of my mind, I'am hopeing the spare soften's the blow a bit
