Johny,
First, you need to look at the C3 Stats for 1979.
This will show you that the Serial Range is from 1Z8789S400001 through 1Z8789S453807 where 400001 is the first "Sequence Number" for that year.
Second, (take your Sequence Number, 423334) subtract (the first number 400001) (-1) and you can tell where your Vette was in the sequence as they rolled off the line... Yours was 23,334th.

Vette(s): 1968 convertible; 1980 L-82. Numbers match on both.
You can usually skip the first character following the plant code on a Corvette VIN; these amount to nothing more than place holders and all Corvettes built in a given model year will include the character. As an example, the character is a 4 for the 1979 models. All 79s had the 4. The five digits following the 4 are the important numbers since those characters comprise the vehicle's sequence number.
