I changed the brakes couple weeks ago and had everything to remove lugs today I went to take wheels off and the key to remove the locking lug is nowhere to be found. Anyone have any ideas on how to remove a locking lug without the key.Cry

There is a special socket that will grip the outside of the lug, and remove it. Don't know if one of your local parts houses will have one like that, but the tool guys(Crap-On/Matco, etc) have them.

You may need to contact your local wheel suppiers. I have a socket that fits right on the special lugs for my Keystones and I don't know if they are all the same or not. If you can figure out who makes the lugs you will have a starting point to locate a replacement key. You also may have to have a shop remove them in order to replace them. Good luck.Big%20smile Aaron19762008-03-30 15:18:57

So what is the point of the locking nut if you can go to Sears and buy one that will take it off? Doesn't sound like it is much of a theft deterent to me.....

Now yer learnin!!
They do have locking lug-nutz that have outer shells that spin, so this type of socket doesn't werk too well on them...yet...

Doesn't sound like much of a deterent, but you have to beat the crap out of them to get it to bite into the lug...makes alot of noise if you are trying to be stealthy forget it.

You can also use a regular socket such as a 13/16, tap it on the locking nut with a hammer and then use a breaker bar to turn it.
