Put her away for the winter

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just watched a show called Classic Car Restoration on the DIY network on my dish.

They did a show on storing and removing your classic from storage.

Says all the info is on their website. Iguess its www.diynet.com?

Anway they might have some tips.

Bob, don't know how cold your winters get where you are, but here it's typically -20c to -30c and when the first warm day of spring comes, the underside of the car is dripping with condensation (in an unheated garage on cement floor). I try to get it outside and warmed up as fast as possible. My point is if this is what happens on the outside of the car, it's also happening on the inside of your gas tank. I always fill the tank to the top.

Agreeded, get in area around Ohio and colder climates, a full tank and stablizer are a big improvement. Well worth it.

We are just hitting the "nice" time of year here, 80's for the high, 60's for the low. It might drop to the 50's by the weekend. Brrrrrrr.....

Living in Canada does sound like a good reason to fill the tank (as I used to do) during the winter...

I live in the Balto/Washington Dc area and "our" winters
are not quite as bad... But in the spring yes I have seen condensation ... Nice to open the hood on a car and look down on a engine that is soaking wet ... NOT

But I have 6 cars I store in the winter and over the last 20-30 years have had my share oc Carb problems because I do not drive them enough so I switched to the half tank method for storage and now run each car down to 1/4 tank as fast as possible in the spring then... fill it up...

I do switch brands of Gasoline every year on the advice of a Petroleum engineer who stated that gas is gas UNTIL each company adds "their" additives at the distrubution point and switching just allows one companies addiditevs to "clean" out the residue from the other companies additives... who knows the "real" right way...

So many thoughts on gas tanks and winter. Well, just for kicks, look down inside your tank with flashlight...real easy to do in a Vette. What you see might scare you. Mine had quite a bit of water laying in the "ribs" where the staps go 'round the tank. Having boats all my life also compounds the delima....replaced a $1,800 gas tank in the boat because of moisture condensation. A little bit of water inside and some outside is death to a tank. So, I fill it up and put some stabilizer in it for cheap insurance. Being inside a garage probably helps for cars, but the boat is at mercy of the elements everyday.
