I've seen parts(NOS) on ebay that are listed with a part number...What catalog(s) do I need in order to know if that part works on my car?? Is there a lot of cross-referencing needed...I would like to bid on a NOS part tomorrow...

maybe you can help me with this...what's the part number for a nos distributor cap for my 72-454?

Thanks...I'm learing a lot and this ole' girl is being true to her car... |rollysmile|

unless you are going for show points, 30 year newer
parts will probably work better!

Materials have improved a lot in 30 years!
Get a high perfomance ignition from ACCEL or some
other company. Upgrade to pointless ignition
and wake your car up!

Steelcities- get all the free catalogs you can. Ecklers, Mid-America, Corvette Central, Volunteer Vettes, Dr. Rebuild, Zip Products, etc., will not only help you learn what parts are particular to your vette, but give you a sense of what the part goes for through a catalog company (which gives you some security that the part will actually work and be damage free.)

Thanks guys for your responses...However, I am talking NOS...I do have many catalogs of corvette restoration places...my question is what helps to give the info on what the original parts would be...i.e. what is a part number on an original 72 for a distributor cap...

My assumption is maybe the gm parts catalogs for the 72...

Hope you all are enjoying your "toys"...

Bay

The distributor should be 1112051, The cap should be 1971244.

I have alot of different books I use to cross reference part numbers.
I use 1953-1982 Corvette parts and Illustration catalog from GM
Vette Vues fact book 1968-1972
NCRS Judging Manual
Corvette Black Book
NCRS Spec Guide
Assembly Manual has alot of part numbers also

Hope this helps.

You can get a parts model manual from Ecklers or Midamerica . We got one for Ian at Mid america and it has been very usefulfor parts and pictures of where they go, plus GM numbers |cheers|

SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)

I picked up the Corvette Parts Interchange Manual 1968-1982 by Paul Herd. It has alot of cross reference to parts from other 'Bow-Tie' models, but does have part numbers up the wahzoo.
