You guys are making me feel lucky.  I do most of my own work but do occassionally use a very Corvette friendly mechanic who is reasonable and is always timely.

So, I talked to the guy.  They're backing off some of the cost.  It is now around $600 and change...  they're still trying to get the idle right, and said that at this point, the work they are doing to finish it up is free.

You should have brought your car to HS, seems like they could have done all that in the parking lot along with the other repairs. Just a thought?

I just recently had everything on my AC replaced. Hoses Compressor, Dryer, belts, Everything new from GM and I took a new fuel pump, and temp guage they did everything for 1100.00. Changed torc converter before having restoration done then put alot bigger motor with much more cam and now need the converter that I had taken out and replaced put back. The stall is not right for the cam I have now. Estimated 200 for new converter and 400 for labor. Have a good mechanic and also is a friend for yrs. He also drag races a 63 split window pro mod.
Sounds as if your getting really gouged on labor prices. Some have a manuel that gives the time needed to repair something. Usually it does not take even 2/3 the time but still charge by the book.

There is always Saturday afternoon in Cuyahoga Falls.  No labor.  Heck of a commute.  Not in the cold or rain.  But where can you get a deal like that?

Adam, is this idle adjustment after I did the carb work.  Wish I could adjust it, but too hard to get the running car here to do so.  Wish you could make it, or I could get there.

How is the idle now?

ALWAYS make sure you get the cost before the work is started.
And if they find something else while they are in there, they better call you first.

BTW, what is the labor rate?

I don't know about other states, but in Ohio the law states any repair over $25. requires an estimate.  The customer can choose written or oral.  Either way, the repair order should indicate the choice.
The total must be within 10% of the original or have additional approval from the customer.
If the additional amount exceeds 10% over the estimate without further approval, the customer does not have to pay anything over the est plus 10%.

Well here's my money pit short story. I spent 400.00 to have my front end taken off the whole thing was crap. Spent 6500.00 to have my engine rebuild and 1000.00 to have it put back in. 500.00 to change it from automatic to manual thats just labor payed 1000.00 for a 69 Muncie with bell housing. Payed 650.00 for engine harness and dash harness. All this without a front end thats for next year. Yes I did say my car was a mess. But someday she will look nice.
