i am looking for any info on how to tell what size engine came out i my 69 coupe. when purchased , i was told it had been a big block car. it had a non original small block. that is fine but i would like to make the car as right as it could be. i was wondering about the tach maybe as a clue.
it has the yellow start at 5300 and red line at 5600 rpm. could that help to tell, as i think it is for sure one of the few things that have not been messed with as most if not all of the drive-train has been replaced. i would apriciate any help. thanks!

Mine was easy when I bought it. Anything that slimy an greasy had to be original. About what seemed to be a gallon of engine degreaser later I was able to read the numbers and verify the match with my buddies at the local speed shop.

thanks for the help so far guys. i will keep on looking for clues. this car was in rough shape when i got it two years ago ( bare frame in front of the firewall, no fenders, radiator support, nothing.) it has been a labor of love, mostly! it is my second vett and i have turned nearly every bolt on the car. i want to put it back as original as possible and still have a good driver for our vette weekends. we took it to funfest in illinois this last weekend about 400 miles round trip and i listened to every little noise that she made. checked it over when we stopped like a worried father. it was great!
