I just pulled my starter and was trying to figure out if it is original or not,
The numbers found on it were:
1108386 3b27 1

1108386 = GM starter: NOT for any Corvette
3b27 = production date of February 27, 19(7?)3 (The additional "1" is probably a workshift number)
Correct starters for 1974 were:
#1108418 = 350 w/manual trans.
#1108430 = 350 w/auto. trans.
#1108400 = 454 w/manual
#1108429 = 454 w/auto.
