. You don't see a C3 on every corner like a rice burner.
Praise the Shark gods you can say that again. I just bought my 80 in Aug of this year and now that it is put away for the winter(Yuck) I decided to a list of items that included rebuilds, add ons upgrades etc and I have reached the $35K mark and am not quite finished. After all is said and done the car is only gong to be worth, best case, $25K and that is Canadian. It seems that up here in Canada I have not been able to find many reputable dealers for parts as you all have down in the US so I have the honor of paying more for the items that I need. For instance the interior is going to cost me upwards of $10K just for materials and then I have to install or get installed. the paint alone is going to cost in the $12,500 range. But enough snivelling from me for now. It is all about the love of the car not the cost though.

I played these games with the 5 C1's and numerous muscle cars I once owned and soon learned NOT to add up the receipts.   Made it only a white lie when the ex asked "how much for THIS one" and I really didn't know a "total".

I've done my time restoring old cars, and the old body would no longer allow it anyway.   No ex to justify where the money goes to either anymore, so the 73 was bought already done.   Other than a new tach cable still waiting for someone with a body more spry than mine to hook it up to the back of the tach, I only have to drive it.   That's good enough for me now days.

Hey guys,

You're right I'm beating myself up over this. I just can't believe what cost $400 in the 70's is gonna cost me like $4,000. I love my Vette, someday I hope to make this a job for myself. I will spend endless amounts on her, but I guess the excitement fell to an all tiem low when the total went up like 7,000 with a few lines of text. I know the driver motor is good, it goes down slow.. more than likley just grease, or perhaps a new gear. However the passanger motor is dead, and has been dead since I got it. So, if I'm replacing one, why not the other.. THe interior is not bad at all, you've all seen it. Its just now that I've been in the car more, I've noticed a few rips, tears, musty dirt dried it.... I'm a picky perfectionist, and thats goign to irk the crap out of me until it all gets fixed. PS>.. does anyone know weather those Deluxe Leather Interior kits from COrvette Central come with insulation?

It's a Vette - C-3

It's a way of Life

It's what we do because of our love for theses cars

Keep receipts but never add them up

Budget your time and money - we all can't have what we want when we want it - patience - it will allcome together, It's a work of art in progress - will it ever be done?

I thinks Eddie 70 pretty well sums up how most of us feel. "Just Drive The Thing" If your concerned about the money buy a new car. If you want to appreciate your work then keep on it.
I like the feelin when somebody says nice car, not how much do you have in that thing. If you want to feel better about the money you've spent go to a rod show. These guys throw tons of money into their cars but "man o man" it's sure worth it in my eyes cause I appreciate what 2 hands have done.
Hey Louis..... Nice Car Keep up the good work!

Vette(s): 1968 convertible 427/390 British Green w/saddle interior and soft top.4 spd no air. It has just been mechanically restored from the tires up, and I'm working on the cosmetics.

I can easily sypathize with you, going thru the same experience on my '68. A TIP for you, if you have time and are a little computer savvy, I have saved a fortune on OEM and NOS parts and used parts that are great or reconditioned thru Ebay!! I found parts for my '68 that are not made as well as high priced remanufactured parts by setting up" watch for" E-mails for parts I needed. If I can be of any help, just "holler", I,ll do what I can and supply you with several small unknown corvette sellers with good prices.   jwc0305

When I did a frame-on restoration of my '77 about ten years ago, I made it a point NOT to add up the receipts.  As someone said in an earlier post, it most often costs more to restore an old car than it is worth upon completion.  We do this because we love Corvettes.  If you want a Vette that you don't have to pour money into, you will need to buy a relatively new one, however, it would continue to depreciate whereas the C3's are going up in value.  It's a personal decision for all of us.
