Hi guys, I just signed up. I LOVE the site. I've never seen so many drop dead gorgeous 'Vettes in my life since I toured the St. Louis plant back in '79! I just bought my 1st Vette this week (an '81). After deciding where to start, I figured I'd start with decoding the VIN and the trim plate. I used the decoder (which is awesome) to get the VIN info and now I was wondering if someone out there could help with the trim plate. It reads:
malo68 2008-03-03 21:41:17
B 09D L07007
74I 33L 33U E
CHEVROLET
Any info that anyone out there could give me on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! George

B = '81 year model
09 = 9th month(Sept)
D = 4th week of month
741 = Dark Red cloth interior(some discrepancies on the trim color on the 81 cars from Bowling Green...) Don't show a 74I for '81, but this is a LATE '81 build...could be coded as an '82 color.
33L/33U = Silver exterior(upper & lower color the same...not two-toned)
Welcome to C3VR!!! Hope this info helps!
Is your car Silver, with Red interior?

Two things that could help you.
1. The Corvette Black Book. Every merchant sells them, but you could get an old one cheap, maybe even free.
2. You can order a build sheet from the National Corvette Museum. That will show how it shipped originally. Colors and options.
Depending on what you want to do, there is a wealth of information out there. And here.

L07007 is probably a partial VIN sequence. Check your VIN and see if it ends with 7007.

Ya snuck that in on us!
Final build VIN for Sept. was 106896...if your VIN is 07007, my data shows it was built Thursday, Oct 1st, '81. The Trim tags were installed on the BG before paint, so it's entirely possible the car didn't get finished until Oct 1st, even tho the trim tag build date is the 4th week of Sept.

Well...I could tell you, but then I'd have to....well, you know...
I use several different sources, but the main one is the "NCRS Pocket Spec Guide". Prolly one of the most reliable sources out there. The "Black Book" is good, too, but it doesn't get into as much detail as the NCRS stuff.
I also have the "Corvette Birthday" book, that gives all of the final build VINs for each month, as well as the final for each day.

Joel,
Can these books still be purchased? If so, do you know where from?
Thanks.
