I've been reading through some of the forums and notice the nickmanes of Stingray and Sharks. Now I've heard of stingrays but never heard of the term Sharks used in re: "Vettes.
I remember from the past a Mako Shark. Anyway Is there a reason some are referred to as Sharks instead of Stingrays or is it just a personal preference?
Don't you just love Newbies !!!!

The Mako Shark concept car of the '60s served as more or less the prototype for the C3 Vette, styling wise. Due to that, C3's have simply picked up the nickname "Sharks". When used, everyone knows that it's a C3 being referred to.

The "Shark" can also be used to refer to very early or very late 3rd Gen (C3) Corvettes. Since the body style was based on the Mako Shark it theoretically applies to all C3s, but GM Named some of them Stingrays(like yours and mine) but a 68, an 82 and I think 80/81 doesn't have the Stingray label despite being nearly the same as the rest of our beautiful cars.

The "Stingray" (one word) emblem was on the '69-'76 C3's. The reason I thought the name "Shark" was used was because of the "gills" on the '68 and '69 Vettes. '80 - '82 saw the return of those gills after a fashion, more like a louvered vent, though.
"Sting Ray"(two words)emblems were on the C2's
