First of all, I had an '88 Monte Carlo with the HO305 and the 700R4.  Even though that car was fun, it only got around 20 on the highway, depending on driver input.  But in town was never any better then 15.  Worst of all is the performance.  That 305 just can not shake the tail like the 350 can.  I say if econnomy is that important to you, then go with fuel injection and a good combimation of trans and rear gears.  Corvettes should be FUN ABOVE ALL OTHER THINGS!

My 82 is stock and certainly not pushing the horses that many of the cars here but I average slightly over 15 around town.  Never had it on a long trip but would expect somewhere around 17 or better.  It gets as good as my cherokee daily driver and MUCH better than my F-250 V-10

I wasn't aware that the 305 came in any other year besides 1980 ( and you noticed they never went back ). I'm not being disrespectful but the HP was so low in that era already, what were they thinking? And I can't believe it could help that much with fuel use. Funny, I've never checked the  fuel milage. I love drivin it so much, it never seemed to matter. Premium is $3.45 here so it's beginning to make an immpression.
