Does anyone have a recommendation on a reliable Mechanic for my 79 Vette? I want someone that really knows Corvettes that I can trust (don’t we all). |laugh| I live in the Nashville, TN area and when I first purchased my car about 7-8 months ago, I took it to a local Chevrolet dealer just to get the car safe and running....but man are they expensive and I can honestly say I was not impressed by what they did. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike Conners 79 L-82 Red/Red

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Mike:
Nice to see there's another member out there with a '79 who can't find a decent mechanic...okay, I'm not saying I'm happy that you can't find one, just that it's nice to know I'm not the only one! |sad|

Seems to me the guys from PA have the advantage over everyone. I think they should rename it "The C3 state". Anyway, I'm from Michigan and can't find anyone I truly trust to do the right job for a decent price either. I'm getting ready to send my baby off for checkups on the tranny, engine, half shafts, etc. but have held off so far because there's no one I trust and people just won't recommend a mechanic up here.

I think you and I need to look for a Mechanics 101 course so we can have someone we trust to do the job right - ourselves! |cheers|

Anyway, if you haven't already, take a look under the Mechanic Directory at the top of the page, and if you have just keep at it and sooner or later you'll find someone. I'm thinking of looking at some of the local hot rod garages, maybe you should too. |thumb|

Another place to check for mechanic references would be the Vette Club Listing page found on the Community page or tab drop down menu. I'm sure a club close to you would have someone who could give you a list of mechanics to check out and/or avoid. Just a thought anyway.

With all the Corvettes headed to Nashville this Summer for the 50th Anniversary celebration, I hope you all find some good mechanics because you are going to need them! Good Luck and will see you all in Nashville in June 2003.

I would check with the Nashville Corvette club. They have several mechanics that you can trust! Also in Hopkinsville, Ky, one hour up the road, there is a guy named Danny Johns. He works at Promech and is a member of the Western Kentucky Corvette Club of Hopkinsville. He is very respectable and highly recommended. He can be reached through their web site. I hope that helps. He is the only guy they let work on their cars in that area.

Hey Mike, There is only 1 mechanic I will let work on anything I own, besides me. Sonny Elliot owns Elliot's Automotive in Bourdeaux. He is great. He has owned several Vettes and he has always campaigned Chevrolet's on the NHRA circuit. He knows as much about Chevrolets as anybody there is. Tell him I told you to call-254-7034. Good Luck

Hey Gang,

How about taking a couple of minutes and adding those references to the Mechanic Directory? Click on the link in the FEATURES: line above or click here to go directly to the add page.
