I am going to take a second look at a 1982 with 65K miles. Car is in really good condition. Better than my totalled 81' was. Is there anything special I should look out for? The only thing I noticed about the car is that the idle was going up and down slightly. Very slightly, but I did hear it. Thanks in advance. Looks like I am going to move up to a gold member here real soon!   Tom

The CrossFire can be a princess or a devil.  I've read in various threads that the idle will 'search' a little.  Check for leaks around the base of each throttle body.  If you do buy it make sure you find a service manual for it.

Good luck...!!!

Other than the induction system(Cross-Fire), and the O/D trans, it's pretty much like any other late '70s/'80 car(mechanically). The dual throttle-bodies can be a pain to get working right, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker, unless it won't idle at all, especially when warm/hot.

Interior stuff seems to wear the fastest, so look at it real close.

Make sure, if you get to drive it, that the electric engine cooling fan works.
Everything else is basic Shark stuff...rust on the windshield frame, water leaks, brake caliper leaks, etc.
Good luck!

The "searching" at idle can be a problem (especially cold) and many have experienced  it.  The system is more sensitive to vacuum leaks than a carburated system. Crossfires are kown for rough idle but when the system is right, they run very well and offer great fuel economy coupled with the 700R4 tranny that was standard in 82.  If you decide to get the 82 Id recommend also joining the crossfire injection vault .  There is a lot of good information there, especially in the resources area.  If you need more info on the crossfire system, let me know, I have posted a number of links here to good resources. The reason I am going back is for a test drive. I want to make sure there are no unusual rattles, or no more than normal. Car comes with service manual, has had paint job in the last 5 years. Although they didn't do the door jambs? But I wouldn't have known it by looking except for the current owner told me. Interior is in very good cond. Thanks for the cooling fan tip. I saw it but really didn't think about it.  I was looking to buy at Carlisle this past weekend, but didn;t find anything the quality or price as good as this one. Thanks again,  Tom

Well Tom, the '82s have all the good looks of an '81, with a few serious upgrades. Do they all have that lift up rear window ? Many a time I've wished for that option, and the overdrive auto tranny is sweet. Good luck. I hope it works out for ya.
