Rob,

Glad to hear you are happy with the GT-40 Cap look - I have gotten nothing but positive feedback form everyone who has seen it on the car so far with the exceptin of my wife - she just thinks I am nuts.
I did not make up any type of pattern for drilling the holes but simply removed the existing lid retaining ring then aligned the new cap and base over the opening and marked the holes. Then removed the cap to be sure the setup was centered properly - with this done I drilled one hole, put the aessmbly back in place and put one Stainless Steel Cap head bolt in place. Now with the cap stabalized in place, I drilled the remaining holes and placed the bolts in as I proceeded to be sure it would not move and I would not worry about the bit sliding.
I used Stainless cap head bolts with nuts and washers as I like the look the hex cap heads added with the cap assembly as well.

Thanks for the comments on the car; I also was not sire how the original style "Motion Monza Cap" would be attached based on the existing size of the gas door, so that was the reason I choose to take a chance on fitting the GT40 Version as the base measured large enough to assure coverage of the existing hole and gives you just enough room with the flange to dill the needed mounting holes in your back deck for attachment. The flange provided on the Scott Drake type unit is not wide enough without some type of adapter as you have noted. It should look good once you have that piece worked out - best of luck and let us know how it works out

Jim,
Thanks for the info.  As soon as it warms up a bit more, maybe in April, I'll start installing all my goodies I bought over the winter.

Thanks for all your help.

Did anyone ever find out if you can order the base completely polished??? I guess the real answer is for me to call Scott Drake directly.

If you are talking about the GT40 fuel door.
I asked about chroming the whole fuel door and he said it would be difficult. Also he mainly  makes these as replicas for GT40 cars.

Another option we had kicked around here briefly was to paint the base of the GT40 cap assembly the same color of the car's body.

Well, I got bored this past Saturday with all the rain and decided to mount the cap.  While looking at it, I felt it needed something to finish it off.  So I took a new cross-flag that is mounted on the original filler door and mounted it to the new cap.  Not bad if I do say so myself.  Check it out.  Couple of more screws and good to go!!
