[QUOTE=dwright]Hey Darryl,
Does West Seneca use a mixture, depending on road temperature?
Our Highway Dept. trys to use as little salt as possible and mixes special brews.
I know some towns in Vermont just use sand. You may not have dry roads and you will need to drive slower, but the metal doesn't get eaten up as bad.

We use straight rock salt. The coarser the granule the better. It kind of looses it's effectiveness at around 20 degrees and below.
One year we had to mix sand/grit with the salt do to a salt shortage. The mine flooded. The problem with using a sand/grit mix is it clogs the storm sewers up come spring time.

And you have all that crud under you car.

I gotta move south, at least for the winter, when I retire.

My baby was mothballed last week, sta-bil, tires up, rags in the carb., covered up....wish I had the extra stall at home so I could at least look at it once in while.
Norsky, you are absolutely correct. Want to get the car put away before the MNDOT crude hits the street. The crude they use is really hard on car finishes, corrosive and abrasive! We need a couple good spring rains to wash that crap away before the vettes and bikes can hit the streets. sundew 2007-11-14 10:40:30

While I have tons of nice things to get to over the winter on Penny, I can't see puttin' her away. So ... KS climate willing (and it has the last few years), I intend to drive all winter when the roads are clear, cold be darned. I'll turn the heater valves on this week, so we'll be toasty, sometimes even with the tops off. Not sure I could do four months without drivin' her. To quote a famous American (Mr. T), "I pity da fool" who has to put the ride away for winter. One of the few things to be said about Florida I guess.

I swear they dump something a whole lot more potent then just salt on our roads. Guy at a local garage told me they replace brake lines cause the s
eats right through them.
40 miles NW Mt Washington is a huge white mass, so I know it's coming, but it was in the 50's here today so shes still ready to go. When she goes night, night the skis come out.

Put mine away at the beginning of the month. It snowed again yesterday. (Third snow this month, none lasted.) It's 25 degrees right now at 10am. Guess the vette won't come out again this year.
