Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
I got home today and Debbie (wife) and Megan (daughter) were gone, minor grocery shopping.   I got in the C3 and pulled out.  I only went about 3 miles when my cell phone rang.   "Where are you?"      So I came back home.   It wasn't a lot, but it did me some good.

Yeah. Weather is why I left Summit County Ohio - The snowbelt!  I get to drive mine all year and even in the winter it is reasonably comfortable with the tops off - just crank up the heater!

But - I will admit, it keeps me from parking it and working on it...oh well - who cares?!!

But I like Summit County.  This may make you glad you left.

Several years ago the National Safety and Traffic Administration did a study of rusty car, county by county, across the entire USA.

The worst place for rusty cars is Summit County Ohio, where I live.
The second worst place is Cuyahoga County Ohio,  also known as Cleveland, where I work.
The third is Portage County, where Debbie's favorite WalMart is located.

Go figure.   Some claim to fame huh?  Dead

Not so sad, just fact.

We use a lot of road salt.   One of the largest salt mines in the world is down under Lake Erie, and comes out on the west side of Cleveland.   There are five viens of salt, and only two are being mined at this time.  If we keep pulling salt out at the present rate these two viens will last another 200 years.

Road salt is cheaper than dirt.  We load it up.   Tears the crap out of the roads as well, but gee it saves a lot of money.   Sure it does.

I always dread the first snowfall.
That's when all the "experienced" drivers slide off the road or slam into the car in front of them because they "forgot" they need to slow down when the roads are a little slippery.Ouch

I put the vette to sleep a couple weeks ago. Today we finally put the GTO to sleep.
A few days ago we had a heavy accumulation of hail which turned to slush. So needless to say, NYS DOT was out in full force, salt was a flying and the plow blades were a sparkin.

Hey Ken, I think the Buffalo area has to be right up at the top near you guy's for salt usage. LOL
And you are right about how it tears the roads up. Let's not talk about what it does to the cars. H*ll I'm one of the guy's that lay that nasty stuff down all winter long. And I do cringe everytime I hit the lever dispencing that nasty stuff. Disapprove

Move to Florida guys, its never to cold to take the tops off or let the vert top back. You do have to worry about the occasional rain, or less occasional hurricane. Gene

Hey Darryl,
Does West Seneca use a mixture, depending on road temperature?
Our Highway Dept. trys to use as little salt as possible and mixes special brews.
I know some towns in Vermont just use sand. You may not have dry roads and you will need to drive slower, but the metal doesn't get eaten up as bad.
