on my '72 trim tag, the date reads :H21 .....is this a build date of August 2, 1971, or is this the 1st week in August 1971? thanks :) mike

ACTUALLY, that code is called the Body Build Date it is the date that the body passed the point where the trim plate is installed. At that point the body was painted, but had no wiring, upholstery or trim and was not mated to the frame (this info taken from my 70-72 NCRS Judging Manual). This alpha-numeric coding for the '72 model started in August of 1971. So, A = August, B = Sept, etc....
Your body build date code of H21 actually means March 21st, 1972. The actually completion date for your Corvette could have been from one day to several days later depending on weekends and holidays.
