I know everyone has heard to never trust a jack alone and always use jack stands. Well, I just want to ensure that NO ONE takes this casually with the Vette factory jack. The other night, I jacked up my Vette with the factory sissor jack. Before I could get a jack stand under the frame, the threads on the jack totally stripped and the car came bouncing back down. What was really scary was that I remembered that once a few months ago I wanted to look at something real quick underneath, probably only a few seconds, so I bypassed the jack stand. If the threads had stripped that night, I'd be dead. DON'T TRUST THE FACTORY JACK WITH YOUR LIFE!

Glad nothing happened. We use jackstands no matter what.
I had a '76 Monte Carlo dropped on me literally back in high school (1984). I was disconnecting the driveshaft at the differential and one of the guy's accidently released the pneumatic bumper jack. Thank God the creeper I was on split down the center and I was skinny enough to escape harm. After that...jackstands were and are always used in my work area.
