now what's odd about the custom paint thing is that this car had only one previous owner...some old lady and her husband owned the car...and they said that that's the original paint job.

Dealers often will do custom paint at the dealership. They make an issue of being a unique car. They may do this on one year or one model. I have seen it several times at different places. Often the buyer does not know it is not factory.
