I installed the new ignition switch in my 68 today and all went well until I tried to put the switch back into the dash.  I installed the key (tumbler) into the switch while I was soldering wires so I could check to make sure I was doing ok – once done I slid the switch with the key/tumbler installed through the dash, put on the ignition switch bezel but the nut won’t fit over the tumbler face (where the key goes in).  So now I think I was not suppose to install the key until the switch was in the dash.  How do I remove the tumbler from the switch?  Or is there a way to remove the cover on the tumbler so the ignition nut will fit?

Edit - just searched Ecklers, what I refer to as a tumbler is the "Ignition lock w/ original keys"

Found it....there is a small pin hole next to where the key goes in - depress a switch in there and the ignition lock releases from the switch.  thanks !!

OK – fixed and done !  I reinstalled the dash last night (had it all off as I searched for the issue)  the drivers and passenger panels went back ok – but the center consol did not.  The top piece, with the air vents, isn’t resting on the top of the gauges and the center consol needs to be pushed in more?  I might have accidentally run a wire bundle behind the radio, not sure.  Any instructions on this that anyone knows about?  For now its together and I can get back to wrapping up the engine – but I will need to address this in the next week or 2 before I drive the car any distance.

I wish I could help, but it sounds like there is something back there that is not allowing the panel to fit all the way back...just have to pull it off and have a look-see...
