I started a thread over on the corvette forum about adding a head's up display unit to our cars. Apparently there is a manufacturer that has an aftermarket kit that we can adapt for our cars.

Gator454 came up with this...
Take a look at this:
http://www.defi-shop.com/product/co...oncept_top.html

I couldn't find any prices so I'm sure if you have to ask you can't afford it.

I think you would need an electronic tach signal and a speed sensor signal
http://hp.autometer.com/products/ac...edo_sender.html

I don't think I would want to be the guinea pig trying to get a bunch of expensive stuff to work in a custom who knows if it will work application.
Here's a link to the thread.

My question to y'all is does anyone already have this system & can anyone post a DIY for installing it?

Looks pretty cool. The picture of it in their web site must be a european car (right hand drive). Looks like it would be kind of pricey, I wonder how well the manufacturer will back it and have parts available for the future?

I don't really know. I do know that it'll be expensive. The head unit is around $300. I don't know how much the sensors are or how much time it would take to install everything.

thats pretty neat! always had the idea of wanting to rig a hud
display on my car. (any car, not just vettes). my idea would be a
device that is more of a projector set into the dash flush or a
small reflector much like a jet. with all the availability of lcd
screens and cheap aftermarket electronics, im suprised no
handy electronics techie hasnt submitted one yet on these
forums.
the problem for me is that i know what id like it to look like and
do, but i could never create the electronics to make it happen.

all the parts are out there to do it though.

Steve it would be great if we could find someone who could create a HUD for us. I'm hoping that between our two boards that the techie guy/gal will come forward with a list of parts & an easy to follow install.

think of it- it could have gps nav, speed, time/distance stuff, whatever you want- maybe even rig a radar detector into it too! probably the best thing for a display would be a noritake 124 x 400 pixel vacum flourescant display, hooked up to a small computer box mounted somewhere under the dash. point it face up, and reverse it to reflect onto either the windshield or a small semi-mirrored piece of glass.

a good example of that is on a late-8o's or early 90's nissan 200sx. Im thinking that you could modify the dash speaker area to mount the device and move the speakers to the kick panel area or elsewhere.   i found a link to a manufacturer in taiwan- (god only knows if it works or how much, but here it is http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/Automotive-gauge-manufac turers/p/2000000003844/3000000149681/1000614854.htm
